Seattle's Little Italy was Garlic Gulch, a Rainier Valley enclave Italian immigrants built a century ago until I-90 paved over most of it. What's left is scattered, not clustered like Boston's North End, so a strip-mall parking lot means nothing here. Judge it on the pasta: made that day, sauce clinging not pooling, and a kitchen that treats Puget Sound seafood as an ingredient for vongole rather than an excuse to skip it. Seattle's Italian food is better than its reputation — mostly because nobody comes here expecting it.
