Miami never built a Little Italy — its Italian presence arrived recently, through consulate paperwork and the Brickell condo boom, not three generations of immigration, and the restaurants show it. Much of Brickell's Italian is New York or Milan imported and restyled for South Beach, selling the room as hard as the rigatoni, a legitimate act, not a meal. Judge past the lighting: is the pasta made that day, is the sauce reduced, does the branzino taste of the Adriatic or of Brickell rent. Most of it fails the second question.
